FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER DIETITIAN SERVICES?

You can receive a rebate for dietetic service if you have private health insurance cover for extras such as dietetics. As health funds vary, please check with your health fund to confirm your level of cover and specific rebate. Some funds pay 80 % of the fee while others pay set amounts for the initial and review consultations.

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?

There will be times that you will not be able to attend your appointment. With this in mind please give us 4 hours notice if you wish to cancel or change your appointment. This allows for other patients to access the apointment.
A non attendance with no contact on three of more occasions may result in a cancellation fee of $75.

WHAT IS A DIETITIAN-NUTRITIONIST?

Both Dietitians and Nutritionists aim to assist in a person’s journey to reaching optimal health through food and nutrition. The main difference between the two professions is that only a Dietitian (with an accreditation from the Dietitians Association of Australia) is qualified to provide individual dietary counselling, medical nutrition therapy or clinical nutrition assessments.

Dietitians in Australia who meet strict criteria are eligible to join the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) program. APD is the only credential for dietitians recognised by Medicare, NDIS and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and many private health insurers.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE A DIETITIAN?

You don't need a GP referral to see a dietitian, but your GP is always a good place to start if you have a health concern.

If you have chronic medical conditions and your GP decides you would benefit from the Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) program, you may be rebated for up to five allied health visits per calendar year.

If you have an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) from your GP this includes twenty dietitian sessions per 12 months.
